I Remember You

Dear Lucy,

Today we went and saw Sarah, our midwife, for a check-in.  You are 12 weeks old. We arrived at her house about 20 minutes early and you had started crying and I knew you were hungry.  You were on the verge of hysterics so I climbed into the back seat and pulled you out of your car seat and started feeding you.  The radio was tuned to the “retro” station and I heard the opening notes of Skid Row’s “I Remember You” and I chuckled.  That was my favorite song in 8th grade and I still had the lyrics memorized. We had about 6 minutes left before our appointment so I decided to sing the whole song to you and hope that you would be done eating by the time I was finished.  So I sang the song to you and halfway through you opened your eyes and started watching me.  Then you were done eating and you just started staring at me and smiling while I was singing and not hitting the high notes.  You loved it!  The lyrics probably aren’t appropriate for a mom to be singing to a baby, but a couple of them were ok, like “all the tears you cried, that called my name” and “’Cause you’ll always be my dream come true, Oh my darling, I love you”!  I put you back into your car seat and you kept staring at me, so entertained.  So if you ever hear this song and get a warm, fuzzy feeling, it’s because your mama sang it to you when you were a little baby!

Love, Mama

So sweet. I have similar memories w/Beck…namely the song “Strange” by Built to Spill. I used to slow dance w/him when he was a baby.
